An Introduction To Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy consists of two words, hypnosis and therapy. Hypnotherapy is a therapy using certain techniques done in a hypnotic state. Hypnosis is the by-pass of the critical factor of the conscious mind followed by the establishment of acceptable selective thinking.

A hypnotic state is an altered state of consciousness in which the mind is very receptive so that the change or modification of the mind program can be done easily and fast.

Hypnotherapy is an effort contract, not a result contract. We never promise for a cure, but we ensure the therapy is done in high standard using Quantum Hypnotherapeutic Protocol from Adi W. Gunawan Institute of Mind Technology. The result of hypnotherapy is based on the cooperation between the client and the therapist.

How Does It Work

With the client’s permission, the hypnotherapist will guide the client to lower the brainwave from beta wave or normal awake state (12-25 Hz) to more relaxed state which is alpha wave (8-12 Hz), theta (4-8 Hz) and delta (0.5-4 Hz). In this frequency, the mind will be very receptive to accept affirmation or suggestion for change.

The relaxed and receptive mind allows the client to access memory (theta wave) and emotion (delta wave) which caused the client’s problems, without the intervention of the conscious, analytical mind (beta wave) mind.

In this way, the client with the help of the therapist, can find resolution from the traumatic event, reconstruct the memory, and release the emotion which disturbs client’s life, and therefore free from the emotion or events.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find and choose a good hypnotherapist?

Talking with them over the phone, and asking any questions you have. They should be able to answer any questions you have in a friendly, informative, and understandable manner. You should select a hypnotherapist that seems warm and friendly, and is easy to for you to understand and follow. Their voice should be pleasing to you, especially since you will probably be listening to their voice on them many times. Most important, you should be comfortable with the person’s demeanour, voice, and instructional style.

Will I lose control during Hypnotherapy Session?

You always have control, and you can always hear what is going on. Hypnosis is nothing more but a state of relaxed and deep focus. It is a natural state that you enter at least twice a day when you waking up and when falling asleep, and probably much more often than that with other relaxing activities. If at any time you are in a hypnotic state and you wish to be fully awake, you can just count to yourself “1 – 2 – 3” or “a – b – c” and open your eyes that’s how easy it is.

Is hypnosis same as mind control or brainwashing?

Hypnosis is never a mind control or brainwashing technique. The hypnotherapist needs the client’s permission to access memory information in the subconscious mind which allows hypnotherapist to open the memory data needed in the restructuring process.

Is Hypnosis/hypnotherapy dangerous in any way?

Hypnosis is perfectly safe.  You are always in control of the situation and you are never unconscious.  Unlike drug therapies hypnosis has no possible side effects and in most people hypnosis always works, unlike drugs that may work or may not work depending on your body’s condition and physical symptoms.  Hypnosis can safely treat the physical and mental aspects of common problems like addictions and can help you break your physical and emotional dependence on negative habits and behaviours or any destructive tendencies that you might have.

What to expect in a good hypnotherapy session?

Typically, the first twenty minutes of your first session with a hypnotherapist will be an introduction to hypnosis and a bit of chat about the changes you would like to make. The hypnotherapist will take a detailed history, then discuss your goal and what you would like to see or feel at the end of your sessions. Using a range of different techniques your hypnotherapist will relax you, make you feel comfortable and work with you towards achieving your goal. After a session, you may feel uplifted and very relaxed. Most of the time change is very subtle, as your hypnotherapist will be working with your subconscious mind, and you may just notice a very positive shift in how you are feeling.

Do I need to see a hypnotherapist more than once?

A common question about hypnosis is “how many sessions will I need?” You most likely will need more than one session with a hypnotherapist to solve your problem but we encourage you to commit to 4 sessions, depending on what the issues you’re trying to resolve.  Most people see noticeable results after just one session so you might not need extensive hypnosis or months of treatment to eliminate your problem, but it will almost always take more than one session for you to see any kind of noticeable results for psychological problems.

How is hypnotherapy different than affirmations?

Hypnotherapy has the advantage of being able to communicate with the subconscious in a two-way fashion. Affirmations don’t facilitate direct responses from the subconscious, it only seeks to speak to the subconscious. there are certain scenarios when it is best to have a two-way conversation.

Disclaimer: Please note that since each client have a different or unique set of events, emotions or issues, the results of hypnotherapy session varies from person to person.

You are in control: Hypnosis is completely relaxing and you are completely aware during the experience. It’s a myth that someone is making you do something. The hypnotherapist helps you connect with your subconscious mind, which puts YOU in control of your subconscious mind—the most powerful and empowering aspect of your brain. Hypnosis restores your freedom of choice, which you haven’t had in many years!
